Four Main Uses of PACS

Since it was first developed, Picture Archiving and Communication System or PACS is designed to have four main uses. In this article, we are going to briefly review those four main uses and see the functionalities PACS has to offer.

The first use of PACS is of course as hardcopy replacement. With a good PACS data storage solution properly installed, you no longer need to use films and make prints in order to complete the diagnostic workflow. Everything is done digitally, allowing you to save time and money in the process.

PACS is also designed to enable remote access to necessary diagnostic images. This is exactly why medical image sharing is becoming more and more popular among doctors and physicians. Experts from all around the world can now work together to solve different medical situations.

Another use PACS is designed for is as electronic image integration platform. Different diagnostic tools are now using the same DICOM medical imaging format, and PACS is standing at the center of them by providing a superb integration platform to connect every aspects of the diagnostic workflow.

Last but not least, the administration features offered in all PACS solutions also enable the platform to be used as radiology workflow management tool.
