Unpacking

Normally I am really good at getting things clean and organized. The last time we moved I was seven months pregnant and I had the house in order in two days flat. The difficulty with a first trimester move is the lack of energy and nausea that tends to come with it. We also have three levels now instead of just one. While this helps keep items more segregated, running up and down stairs isn’t my idea of fun.

The first room that needs to be organized is the kitchen. My mom graciously offers to help me get the kitchen in order by unpacking totes and putting dishes, pans, etc. away. I tend to be more particular about the order of things than my mom, but my first trimester woes have eliminated my motivation to clean and organize. Right now my biggest motivation is eating and sleeping. Of course the kitchen needs to be in some kind of order before we can start making food so I try to focus on unwrapping the glasses that I had previously packed with such care and lots of tissue paper. When we get to the pantry tote, I realize that there isn’t a pantry in this house, just the kitchen cabinets and there is no way that all of our dry and canned foods are going to fit in the one cabinet not occupied by dishes. There is a closet right of the living room that could probably be converted into a pantry but we’ll have to find some sort of shelving unit in the closet … but I’ll worry about that later. For now the dry and canned foods can just stay in the tote.

While my mom is helping me get the kitchen in order, my dad is helping my husband with the reassembly of our canopy bed. It is definitely a two person job. I am looking forward to taking a nap soon.
