The newly restored miniature Immel Circus at the Massillon Museum. MASSILLON, Ohio – The Kelly Miller Circus clowns will be on the Massillon Museums front lawn from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 20 promoting the circus. Meet the clowns, then head to the museums second floor to view its own Immel Circus, a 100-square-foot miniature circus diorama with 2,620 figures hand-carved by the late Dr. Robert M. Immel of Massillon.
The diorama is surrounded by historic circus posters and photographs from the Museums permanent collection. (You have to see these pieces to believe them.) And check out the museum’s website to learn about their conservations efforts to keep the miniature circus around a lot longer.
The elephants in the Immel Circus stand only a few inches tall. Visitors can buy Kelly Miller Circus tickets at the front reception desk ($6 for children; $10 for adults). Tickets are available (cash and checks only) through July 20, when the circus will perform at the Massillon Knights of Columbus on Cherry Road, N.W.
The Massillon Museum is located at 121 Lincoln Way East in downtown Massillon. A visit to the Massillon Museum is always free. Call 330-833-4061.
