Study: Marijuana Use Causes Chaos in the Brain

Previous scientific studies have associated the consumption of cannabis with impairment of concentration and memory. Now a new study from the University of Bristol has delved deeper into the mind of the marijuana smoker. They found that brain activity becomes highly uncoordinated, erratic, and inaccurate while the user is under the influence. The researchers believe this brain-chaos can lead to neuropsychological and behavioral impairments similar to those observed in schizophrenia.

This study has great significance, considering cannabis is the most popular recreational drug in the entire world behind alcohol, caffeine, and tobacco.

Sustain Our children

Tuesday, I watched a webinar presented by Barilla Center for Food and Nutrition about how to teach our kids healthy and sustainable behavior. It was a lively debate that made me think the rest of the day about whether it is possible to teach sustainable and healthy behaviors on a small scale.

While I didn’t feel like there was enough time to really answer these questions and provide actionable steps we could take today, I did feel it was the beginning of an important conversation. There was many times one of the presenters said we can influence and interact with our food system, but he never said what that meant exactly, nor how to do this! <

Understanding how programs work to prevent overt aggressive behaviors: a meta-analysis of mediators of elementary school-based programs

Several recent meta-analyses of universal school-based violence prevention studies indicate the overall positive impacts of these approaches on aggression. These studies, however, assess impacts on broadly defined measures of aggression. Furthermore, little research has analyzed the mechanisms through which these programs attempt to reduce overt aggressive behavior. Too much junk food hurts fertility in young men

Processed, deep-fried foods do most damage to sperm, according to researchers

Chips and other junk food are sperm killers, say researchers from Harvard University.

A study out of Harvard University has found that healthy young men who indulge in junk food binges are putting their fertility at risk. And those who ate foods high in trans fats — like deep-fried and processed foods — fared the worst.In the study, researchers from Harvard and the University of Murcia in Spain asked hundreds of men ages 18-22 to keep a log of everything they ate for months.
